چکیده

The National Ignition Facility (NIF) baseline configuration for inertial confinement fusion requires phase modulation for two purposes. First, 1A of frequency modulation (FM) bandwidth at low modulation frequency is required to suppress buildup of Stimulated Brioullin Scattering (SBS) in the large aperture laser optics. Also 3 A or more bandwidth at high modulation frequency is required for smoothing of the speckle pattern illuminating the target by the smoothing by spectral dispersion method (SSD).l Ideally, imposition of bandwidth by pure phase modulation does not affect the beam intensity. However, as a result of a large number of effects, the FM converts to amplitude modulation (AM). In general this adversely affects the laser performance, e.g. by reducing the margin against damage to the optics. In particular, very large conversion of FM to AM has been observed in the NIF all-fiber master oscillator and distribution systems. The various mechanisms leading to AM are analyzed and approaches to minimizing their effects are discussed.

Evaluating the Growth and Evolution of Facility Management in Innovating Integrating and Aligning Business Strategies to Achieve a Competitive Advantage

The South African Facilities Management (FM) industry has seen increased operational strategy complexity from single-site contractors providing basic janitorial services to highly integrated and bundled FM service providers.  Despite these major changes, very little research has been conducted on evaluating the effectiveness of FM in innovating, integrating and aligning business strategies to a...

Combined effect of ignition and injection timing along with hydrogen enrichment to natural gas in a direct injection engine on performance and exhaust emission

To improve the engine performance and reduce emissions, factors such as changing ignition and injection timing along with converting of port injection system to direct injection in SI(spark-ignited) engines and hydrogen enrichment to CNG fuel at WOT conditions have a great importance. In this work, which was investigated experimentally (for CNG engine) and theoretically (for combustion Eddy Bre...

The saturn target for polar direct drive on the national ignition facility.

A new target design concept is proposed for direct-drive implosions while the National Ignition Facility is in its initial, indirect-drive configuration. It differs from earlier "polar-direct-drive" designs by adding a low-Z ring around the capsule equator. Refraction in the plasma formed around this ring permits time-dependent tuning of the capsule drive uniformity. An optimized simulation sho...

Hot electron measurements in ignition relevant Hohlraums on the National Ignition Facility.

On the National Ignition Facility (NIF), hot electrons generated in laser heated Hohlraums are inferred from the >20 keV bremsstrahlung emission measured with the time integrated FFLEX broadband spectrometer. New high energy (>200 keV) time resolved channels were added to infer the generated >170 keV hot electrons that can cause ignition capsule preheat. First hot electron measurements in near ...
